One to One Support Worker- Summer Camp

We are looking for a dynamic leader to provide 1 to 1 support for a child attending the summer camp program who has identified special needs, and to promote and support an environment for all kids to be able to particpate fully in camp programming this summer!

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing support and direct care  to a child with identified special needs, encouraging their intellectual, physical and emotional growth and giving them the best chance possible to succeed in Quadra Village Community Childcare
  • Implementing developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Supporting children attending the program who are having challenges and collaborate with other Leaders and The Coordinator to work with them on useful skills through modeling, mentoring, teachable moments and supportive conversations.
  • Ensuring that the program environments are clean, safe, suitable, caring, respectful and inclusive.
  • Implementing Quadra Village Community Childcare policies and procedures.
  • Supporting communication of the Child and Family Programs Coordinator with parents, caregivers, schools and relevant agencies. 
  • Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Child and Family Programs Coordinator or Executive Director.

A significant number of children and youth attending the camp will be coming from personal and/or family situations that include challenges  such as  disabilities, poverty, family violence, addiction, mental illness, FASD, impulse control and borderline parental availability, capacity and role modelling. This position would be great for someone who  finds meaning in working with kids who face barriers.

*The successful candidate will be required to undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check and must be at least 19 years of age

 Experience and Education

  • Experience and/or education directly related to school aged childcare, summer camp, recreation, child and youth development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management and group supervision are all considered an asset for this position.
  • Skills specific to effectively working with children with special needs.  
  • High School Graduation (At least)
  • 20 hours of training ( or course work) in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition

Hours of Work:

5 days a week: 35-40 hours per week


Wage and Benefits:

$16.00 an hour plus 6% vacation.
